How can Dangerous Chemical Vehicle be safer?

At 16:40 PM on June 13, 2020,  G15 Shenhai (Shenyang-Haikou) expressway, in the direction of Ningbo to Wenzhou, the middle of the ramp at the west exit of Wenling. A tanker truck exploded and ran off the expressway, after which a secondary explosion occurred. Multiple parts of the vehicle disintegrated almost instantly and were scattered in all directions. This incident has drawn our attention to the safety and protection of dangerous chemical vehicle.

The incident occurred when the tank carried in the exploding car flew over five rows of buildings and hit a small 4-storey building, a distance of roughly 200 meters. Underneath the tank, a small red car was smashed beyond recognition. At that time the tank is still in place and has not been moved. Following the incident, Daxi Town requisitioned a total of 13 resettlement sites in the surrounding town hotels to house residents whose houses were severely damaged.

The drafting group has collected and analysed major traffic safety accidents involving dangerous chemical vehicle in recent years. A number of accidents were caused by rear-end collisions resulting in structural breakage of the rear of the vehicle and leakage of dangerous goods, which ultimately led to major casualties. The two accidents caused 14 deaths and 24 injuries of varying degrees, resulting in huge economic losses and environmental pollution due to the leakage of hazardous chemicals. It can be seen that the anti-collision energy absorption device of dangerous chemical vehicle plays a vital role in its safety protection.
